Unless my eyes deceive me, there's something not quite right with that tower...
Not many years ago, an intriguing corner bookshop in Pisa, Italy drew me inside.
To be honest, that wasn't hard because most bookshops intrigue me.
It was small but stylish. Very Italian.
Tall bookcases with a modern feel stood in a room probably at least three hundred years old.
I can’t read Italian, but that didn’t stop me from pulling copies down from the shelves.
I just like books.
Pisa is a university town; perhaps that’s why there was a small section devoted to books in English.
Various titles were displayed.
A small, black-covered book with a striking portrait on the cover caught my eye.
The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli.
Parting with €3.60, I left with the slim volume.
It was the list of contents that sold me.
Chapters like;
Ruefully, I wished I had gotten this book sooner.
It would have come in handy in a previous job where office politics, more than work, dominated.
Point II would have been especially helpful.
In retrospect, I feel some of my erstwhile colleagues had gotten their copies much sooner than me because they were highly proficient in applying all the lessons.
Luckily, I don't need them now.
