Thursday 19th April 2018 was a special date. Not only was it the hottest day of the year so far, but it was the date chosen by our long-term client, The Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) to host an exclusive event showcasing their spectacular venue, Savoy Place.
Located in the beating heart of London, Savoy Place has long been the premier choice for tech-driven events. There’s plenty of cutting-edge technology on offer, alongside 18 diverse event spaces, a magnificent roof terrace overlooking the Thames, and two tiered lecture theatres at the venue, which has recently undergone a vast, £30 million refurbishment.
2017 was a stand-out year for the IET at Savoy Place, with an amazing 1,716 diverse science, technology and mathematics-based events held – not to mention visits from such luminaries as robots, astronauts, professors…and will.i.am!
So what better way to welcome clients old and new, than with a celebratory event – titled Bits and Bytes – to herald a brand-new era for the venue?
As the preferred graphics supplier to Savoy Place, it was an honour for our team at Guardian Exhibition & Display to showcase our own expertise throughout, with everything from hanging signage and wallpaper, to window dressings and exhibition stands on display.
We couldn’t miss the opportunity of having such immaculate surroundings to help stir guests’ creativity. The eye-catching graphics and signage we produced easily allowed business owners to imagine their own logo gracing our display materials as they made their way around the venue!
As you may have already guessed, Bits and Bytes paid homage to all things tech, and our team proudly assisted The IET in displaying Savoy Place’s industry-leading audio visual capability. This included a dazzling light show and a smooth virtual reality tour of the venue’s event spaces.
Following all that hard work, it was time for food, drinks and retro arcade games in the Riverside Room, complete with cocktails and mocktails from the comfort of the sun-drenched Johnson Roof Terrace (and on the hottest day of the year so far, the scenery couldn’t have been more idyllic).
With Bits and Bytes such an innovative event, the catering had to be just as creative, so alongside mouthwatering British charcuterie, cheeses and torched steak, guests were treated to vegan sushi and a ‘bug bar’ that stocked a selection of must-sample delicacies including dried critters, mealworm arancini and (surprisingly tasty) locust tacos!
Welcome desserts were served at their own ‘nitro station’ and a hearty pudding table, to round off a fun and memorable event that perfectly showcased a special venue, and an exciting future.
