Can you relate to the following?
Last week a colleague expressed his frustration.
An exhibitor had called asking for a quote for graphics to be mounted on the rear wall of her stand.
He quoted but was told that another supplier had quoted the same job for approximately half the price.
Mystified as to how that could be, he asked the prospective client to say what she had been quoted for.
Turns out it was for a far inferior hence much cheaper wall covering.
He knew that when that wall graphic is mounted it will bunch and will not give the smooth flat, professional looking finish the client asked for and expects to see.
Pointing this out didn’t help.
She explained that she was under huge pressure from her boss to reduce marketing costs and that included events.
The problem is that when her boss comes on site the instruction about cost-cutting will be forgotten.
His or her focus will be on how poor their stand and image looks in comparison with the others around it.
Sadly, it’s just human nature or the nature of bosses.
If this is an issue you face, what can you do about it?
The first thing is to have the courage of your convictions.
Highlight that an excellent, well prepared stand and staff will produce far more in revenue for your business than cost-cutting on things that could lose you sales.
Going to as many shows as we do, we see appallingly poor graphics, no graphics, and no on-stand lighting as examples of this kind of shoot yourself in the foot thinking.
If your company is going to exhibit, then at least do it well.
And, stand up for your reputation.
You want to achieve the best results possible.
Don’t be party to anything that could harm that outcome.
Ultimately, your boss wants those excellent results, you have to show why your way is the best way to get them.
