Eclipse, the F1 in Schools Team from Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Faversham, has been crowned UK Champions.
Guardian Display support team Eclipse with display equipment, and we were doubly delighted to learn of their result at the UK Finals in Birmingham.
Not only were Eclipse crowned Overall Champions, but they also won the prize for Best Pit Display.
The team pictured above comprise Evie, Enterprise Manager, Tom, Engineering Manager; and Javier, Team Principal.
The competition's judging panel decided that Eclipse's miniature Formula 1 car of the future was the very best.
Eclipse followed a systematic design and production process along with all the other competing teams.
This was to ensure they met the strict specifications of the competition.
That required using CAD software and CNC machines to design and construct their car.
And these miniature vehicles are no slouches.
Using tiny compressed air cylinders for fuel, they can reach speeds above 75 KPH as they fly along a twenty-metre track.
The competition, which is international, fosters and develops practical skills that will be extremely useful and marketable when students move into the workplace.
As UK Champions, team Eclipse has the opportunity to represent the United Kingdom at the World Finals in Singapore later this year.
We wish them every success!
