A trending news story on Metro Life’s news feed highlights just how expensive it is to rent in London.
The story highlighted, “Tiny 108 sq ft studio flat with no toilet or hob is yours to rent for £940.”
The studio flat in question is in the very posh Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and it does offer a feeble looking shower inside a cupboard space. Yipee!
But do you have to hope your neighbours are in and amenable every time you want to use the loo?
The story reminds me of when my wife owned an estate agency in an affluent part of north London.
Saturdays were very busy with viewings, especially for rental properties.
When she was short-staffed due to holidays or illness, I used to help out with viewings.
Hence, I came to be showing someone a studio flat in Muswell Hill one Saturday morning.
It’s a lovely area of London in which to live even though it has no Tube or mainline station nearby.
However, my heart sank when I walked through the front door.
This studio looked small, especially when compared to the rental cost.
It didn't seem like you got much for your money.
I expected the viewer to have a similar adverse reaction, but to my amazement, she loved it and wanted to confirm there and then.
Before her arrival, I was thinking about advising her to look a few stops further down the Northern Line (Tube) for better value rentals.
Of course, my wife would not have agreed with that advice.
When I raised the rent issue, she (my wife) said that the flat was good value for money and competitively priced as far as that part of London went.
Hence why the viewer wanted to snap it up and why I never went into the estate agency business.
Jumping back to the Metro story, 108 sq ft equates to just over ten square metres of stand space in a trade show.
Unlike that rented studio in London, this is a space you can make money with, and we would be delighted to help.
